Can I charter a yacht in France during Covid?

*This information is subject to the stipulation that foreign travel from your home country is permitted.*

If you are travelling from within the European Space, you are permitted to charter a yacht in France. In addition to this, you must abide by the health regulations. Citizens coming from the European Space are also not required to quarantine.

The countries which comprise the European space are:

  • The European Union Member States
  • Andorra
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Monaco
  • Norway
  • San Marino

Furthermore, if you are arriving from one of the following 7 countries for a yacht charter in France, you are permitted to enter. However, you are required to quarantine for 7 days upon your arrival.

  • Australia
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • The United Kingdom

If you are travelling from a country not mentioned above, you are not permitted to enter France for tourism reasons. Therefore, in this circumstance, passengers are not currently permitted to charter a yacht in France during Covid. These countries include the USA and UAE.

Note: while France is currently still in a lockdown, the government are currently discussing and making plans for travel to open up from every country this summer. June 9th is set to be the date that international travel to France opens up again.

What documents must I present on arrival?

Individuals must present a negative PCR test result, carried out no sooner than 72 hours before departure. Individuals must also present a signed sworn declaration.

What if I am vaccinated?

France has yet to confirm regulations for entry by persons vaccinated against Covid-19. In this situation, vaccinated, and unvaccinated persons are subject to the same regulations.

What if previously had Covid?

In this instance, France has yet to confirm regulations for entry by persons who have had Covid-19 in the past. Currently, such persons are subject to the same regulations.

What are the regulations surrounding children?

Children under the age of 11 are not required to present a negative PCR test result. This is on the condition that the parents/guardians have a negative PCR result.

Do I need to quarantine upon arrival?

If you are entering France to charter a yacht from the European space you are not required to quarantine.

However, if you are arriving from one of the following countries, you are required to quarantine for 7 days upon your arrival:

  • Australia
  • Israel
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • The United Kingdom

So, I can charter a yacht in France during Covid, but what are the current general restrictions in the country?

You must wear a face mask at all times outside the home.

A curfew is in place in all of metropolitan France from 7PM to 6AM. Outside these hours you must only leave your home for essential reasons. This is set to change until 9PM on the 19th May, and to 11PM on June 9th. From June 30th there will be no curfew.

Pubs, restaurants, gyms, cinemas, and nightclubs are also closed, however they are set to open on May 19th. At the moment, some venues offer takeaway food and drink.

Nightclubs and casinos remain closed.

Public transport remains open.

Additional Cruising Restrictions

Navigation and mooring in French waters is allowed for Schengen area flagged yachts, including during curfew times,  but crew and passengers cannot go ashore during curfew times. Authorization of the port authority to leave the port is required. 

A Negative PCR or antigen test is needed to enter Corsica, including from France mainland, however this may be lifted from June 2nd.

Navigation without stopping in French waters is allowed for non-Schengen area flagged yachts, but they are not allowed to stop and anchor. They can however go to a port where they have a booking.
