Being able to sail as much as possible was a key element to the design of The Idler, hence working on a fully custom North 3Di sail wardrobe with Square Top Main, Staysail and Genoa, Code Reacher, Helix Downwind Reacher and G2 Gennaker she can sail at speed when most other Sunreef 80’s are stuck to the water or burning diesel. Of course sailing is not just Clean, Silent running it also allows the Hydro Regen on the Props to recharge the batteries with up to 7kW per prop. But when the wind doesn’t blow and you have to go under power her fully electric propulsion motors let you cruise in near-total silence. There’s no hum, no vibration—just the sound of the sea. It’s a transformative experience.

The Solar Skin recharges the house batteries with up to 32kW per hour which means no diesel generator is required to run the systems, aircon, Watermakers etc, this is especially important for guests who value calm mornings, quiet evenings, and immersive time with nature and a clear commitment to sustainability. Every element of her design reflects modern luxury with a lighter footprint, offering all the space, comfort, and innovation you could want in a large catamaran – without compromise.

The Idler is equipped with an impressive 32 kW solar skin system, harnessing the sun’s energy to recharge the batteries, all while reducing emissions. Imagine cruising silently across the open sea, knowing that you are reducing your environmental impact. The solar energy allows for extended periods at sea, whether you’re exploring remote coastlines or simply enjoying a peaceful day on the water. The Idler has managed to sail for over 7 days while crossing the Atlantic without needing any intervention from the generator and that was running aircon and all other systems as normal.

The Idler’s look and feel was designed by the owners to give the feel of a relaxing private floating beach house. She’s expansive and elegant, with oversized lounging areas, a saloon dedicated entirely to guests, and four double cabins styled like boutique suites and the magnificent balcony hull door in the master cabin putting you just a few steps from bed to sea!
